Submissions for nominations are open—here’s what you need to know

The 2023 Zibby Awards are now live! This is the third annual Zibby Awards, celebrating Zibby Bookshop’s creative curation system. This year, we’re introducing 27 new award categories based on real shelves in Zibby’s Bookshop.

Launched in 2021, the Zibby Awards strives to commemorate the often under-celebrated parts of a book by including categories such as Best Spine Design, Best Acknowledgements, Best Table of Contents, and more. The first Zibby Awards ceremony was held at the Center for Fiction in Brooklyn, New York––the second was held at Zibby’s home, ushering an intimate gathering.

Last year’s winners include Tiffany Drayton, Kristin van Ogtrop, Melissa Bond, Alison B. Hart, Gina Sorrell, Keke Palmer, Carolyn Lee Arnold, Laura Tisdel, Karen Winn, Emi Battaglia, Nadine Epstein, Tiffanie Drayton, Julie Vick, Brenda Gardner, and Lisa Harrison.

This year, finalists will be invited to the in-person awards ceremony at Zibby’s Bookshop in Santa Monica, California. Each category winner will take home a prize, plus a spot for their book on the “Zibby Awards” shelf at the bookshop and in our online store. All entrants will be eligible to win a $250 gift certificate to Zibby’s Bookshop plus Zibby Media merchandise.

The categories for the 2023 Zibby Awards are:

  1. Best Book That Made You Laugh

  2. Best Book That Made You Cry

  3. Best Book That Made You Tremble

  4. Best Book That Made You Lust

  5. Best Book That Made You Escape

  6. Best Book For the Anxious

  7. Best Family Drama

  8. Best Coming of Age Book

  9. Best Coming of Age Book

  10. Best Story of Overcoming

  11. Best Book About Friendship

  12. Best Book for the Writer

  13. Best Book for the Animal Lover

  14. Best Book for the Music Lover

  15. Best Book for the Valentine

  16. Best Book for the Foodie

  17. Best Book for the Sports Fan

  18. Best Book for the History Lover

  19. Best Beach Read

  20. Best Book for the Traveler

  21. Best Book for the Strong Woman

  22. Best Book for the Griever

  23. Best Book for the Health & Wellness Guru

  24. Best Book for the Parent

  25. Best Book for the Knowledge Hunter

  26. Best Book for the Pop Culture Lover

  27. Best Book for the Dreamer (Fantasy)

The submission period ends November 15th, and costs $10 per entry. Entrants will be notified that they were nominated, and the Zibby Media team will select the finalists in each category. Finalists will be revealed on December 6th. You can nominate your own book or your favorites on the Zibby Media website here. We look forward to reading your submissions!
